497: Tove Jansson: The Dangerous Journey

A delightful picture book in rhyme that offers the very last glimpse of Moomin Valley as drawn by Jansson herself. A little girl is transported with the help of magic glasses from the tedium of a summer afternoon into an exciting world of mangrove swamps, spluttering volcanoes and sea, where birds fly upside down.

“‘I’ve got special powers,’ she smiled. / ‘All this is down to me. I’m just a little girl, a child, / But my mind has moved the sea.'”

“The Dangerous Journey: A Tale of Moomin Valley” is written and illustrated by Tove Jansson. First published in Swedish in 1977. Translation in English by Sophie Hannah. Published in English by Sort of Books in 2010. Bought thanks to a sold woven bookmark ❤️
