Elisabeth Mann Borgese (1918–2002) was an internationally recognized expert on maritime law and policy and the protection of the environment. Called “the mother of the oceans, she received the Order of Canada and awards from the governments of Austria, China, Colombia, Germany, the United Nations, and the World Conservation Union. Her book “Seafarm” is a worldwide survey of aquaculture methods. Author traveled around the world to study aquaculture as it is practiced in many different forms. Gifted photographer Robert Ketchum shared a large part of this journey.

“Seafarm, to be sure, with its arms reaching deep into the land, will always remain part wilderness, untamed, where man must learn to live with nature, within nature, a part of nature, not over and against nature.”
