Today I received a postcard from Australia, which felt like a small wonder. There was no exact address on the envelope, yet it found its way to me nonetheless. If you were a postman, where would you deliver a letter titled Sea Library? To the Jūrmala Central Library, of course!

I’m glad that after three years of working at the Library Development Center (National Library of Latvia), I now know every library director in Latvia. So I received a call this morning from the Jūrmala Central Library saying there was a letter for me.

And here it is: a postcard from a radio listener in Australia – a marine scientist and teacher named Frances. An inspiring and lovely reminder of how stories, libraries, and curiosity travel across oceans and always find their way.

Šodien saņēmu pastkarti no Austrālijas – kā mazu brīnumu. Jo – uz aploksnes nebija precīzas adreses, tomēr tā mani atrada. Ja tu būtu pastnieks, kur nogādātu vēstuli ar nosaukumu Jūras bibliotēka? Protams, uz Jūrmalas Centrālo bibliotēku!

Esmu priecīga, ka pēc trim gadiem, strādājot Bibliotēku attīstības centrā (Latvijas Nacionālajā bibliotēkā), tagad pazīstu ikvienu bibliotēkas direktoru Latvijā. Tāpēc šorīt saņēmu zvanu no Jūrmalas Centrālās bibliotēkas – ka man ir pienākusi vēstule.

Un te tā ir: pastkarte no radio klausītājas Austrālijā – jūras zinātnieces un pasniedzējas Frānsisas. Iedvesmojošs un skaists atgādinājums par to, kā stāsti, bibliotēkas un zinātkāre ceļo pāri okeāniem un vienmēr atrod adresātu.
