660: Caryl Lewis: Drift

Moving between the wild Welsh coast and war-torn Syria, this book is a hypnotic tale of lost identity, the quest for home and the wondrous resilience of the human spirit. It is a story of love, magic and the irresistible lure of the sea.

“The sea would show you what you needed…”

Caryl Lewis “Drift”. Published by Penguin in 2022. Donated to the library by Rachel Davies, who writes: “I’m sending you a copy of “Drift” so you have a piece of fiction from Wales in the Sea Library. It’s a tender love with a little folklore mixed in with modern life. We have a saying in Welsh called ‘hiraeth’. There’s no direct translation, but it’s a type of homesickness or longing Welsh people feel when they’re away for too long. Nefyn, the main character at this book, feels that way when she’s away from the sea.” ❤️
